Food for Fines program is returning to The Parkland Library in April. An opportunity to eliminate most library fines, Food for Fines will run from Monday, April 1, 2019 through Monday, April 22, 2019. The food items collected will be donated to Food for the Poor in Coconut Creek.
It’s simple—bring one unexpired, non-perishable food item to the library and $1 of library fines will be waived from your record. The more you bring, the more the library will reduce your fine. This fine reduction program applies only to overdue fines. Fees related to damaged or lost items are not included in the Food for Fines program.
Bring your donation to the checkout desk at the Parkland Library.

All Booked Up Book Discussion Group: The Friend by Sigrid Nunez Saturday, April 6, 10:30 a.m.
When a woman unexpectedly loses her lifelong best friend and mentor, she finds herself burdened with the unwanted dog he has left behind. Her own battle against grief is intensified by the dog, a huge Great Dane traumatized by the inexplicable disappearance of its master, and by the threat of eviction: dogs are prohibited in her apartment building.
While others worry that grief has made her a victim of magical thinking, the woman refuses to be separated from the dog. She comes dangerously close to unraveling. But while troubles abound, rich and surprising rewards lie in store for both of them. Elegiac and searching, The Friend is both a meditation on loss and a celebration of human-canine devotion.
