North Broward Preparatory School athletes and alumni enjoyed a remarkable week of success at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels.
Kevin Austin Jr., a 2018 North Broward Prep graduate, scored his first NFL touchdown on Sunday with the New Orleans Saints. After being released multiple times and spending time on practice squads, Austin broke through by catching a touchdown pass from Tyler Shough in a 34–28 win over the Tennessee Titans. He finished the penultimate game of the season with four receptions for 52 yards, marking a major milestone in his professional journey.
At the collegiate level, Riley Weiss, a 2023 North Broward Prep graduate, surpassed 1,000 career points at Columbia University. Now a junior, Weiss—who once scored 50 points in a single game at NBP—averaged roughly seven points per game as a freshman before more than doubling her production over the past two seasons. She has averaged nearly 20 points per game during that span.
Weiss also made headlines off the court, becoming one of six student-athletes to sign an NIL contract with the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, an organization that sponsors Jewish NCAA athletes.
In baseball news, North Broward Prep senior Adrian Rodriguez announced his commitment to Roane State Community College in Tennessee.
“Thank you to Coach Hamsley and Coach Dalton for the opportunity, and to my coaches, family, and friends for their support and for helping me become the best version of myself on and off the field,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez has been a varsity contributor since his freshman year and played a key role on North Broward Prep’s state championship team as a sophomore. That season, the Eagles finished 28–3, earning the No. 2 ranking in Florida and No. 8 nationally.
A slick-fielding infielder, Rodriguez can play multiple positions and brings consistency both defensively and offensively. Last season, he hit .275 with two doubles, one triple, and 19 RBIs, while posting an on-base percentage of .406. He drew six walks, was hit by six pitches, and added three stolen bases as NBP captured another District Title. With one high school season remaining, Rodriguez is expected to play a major role when the Eagles open their season in February, before joining a Roane State program that won 28 games at the collegiate level last season.
