Coconut Creek residents will soon have a larger and improved Oak Trails Park.
During the January 23 meeting, the commission agreed to an ordinance approving the rezoning application of properties located at 4100 and 4250 Northwest 74th Street from agricultural to recreation.
The commission also agreed to a resolution to approve the city’s site plan request for the park’s renovation and expansion.
Oak Trails is considered a passive park, meaning it is a place where individuals and families can enjoy an outdoor environment. The work will include expanding walking paths, installing new exercise equipment, renovating the building on the east parcel to become a nature center, and building new restroom facilities. There will also be 29 additional parking spaces.

According to the staff presentation, more native trees, vegetation, and a pollinator garden will improve the park’s overall appearance. In the future, ball fields for competitive athletics can be added. The pavilions and renovated building will be available for community events.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell said there was strong community support for an expanded passive park.
