High school track and field teams returned to action this week, competing in the BCAA Championship while also taking time to celebrate senior night across multiple campuses, and one other team honored beach volleyball players.
At Coconut Creek High School, several student-athletes qualified for the BCAA Championship, highlighted by Zanii Miller’s 12th-place finish in the 400 meters. The 4×800 relay team of Dudley Norcine, Darryl Pluviose, Breon Burns, and Clevice Joseph placed 15th. On the girls’ side, Ruthann Powell led the way with a 10th-place finish in the 200 meters. She also helped power the 4×100 relay team to a third-place finish alongside Taliyah McCartney, Kaelin Cooper, and Powell.
The Cougars later hosted Senior Night on Tuesday, honoring Michael Buggan, Paul Inonme, Payton James, Juvens Joseph, Woldy Mathurin, Dudley Norcine, Darryl Pluviose, Kareem Weekes, Jan’iya Cohen, Farah Charles, Ruthann Powell, Kayla Shivers, and Mayayla Johnson.
Monarch High School wrapped up its regular season at the 2026 Bob Hayes High School Invitational. Isaiah Worthy led the boys’ team in both the 100 and 200 meters and also competed in the 4×100 relay with Bryan Bones, Sanjay Fisher, and Chris Cortinas.
For the girls, Aliyah Duncan posted the team’s top result in the 100 meters, while Kennedi Stephenson impressed in the 400 meters and Chyann Bynes in the 400 hurdles. Stephenson, Chelsea Dumas, Bynes, and Duncan teamed up to finish 15th in the 4×100 relay.
Monarch also recognized its seniors: Amari Deen, Malachi Infinity, Patrick Pierce, Jania Cooper, and Elle Russell.
North Broward Prep held its Senior Night on Monday, honoring Adrian Alonso, Zack Amelchenko, Brett Fink, Aiden Kontos, Will Kontos, Eric Levy, Boston Nguyen, Ayo Ogunyebi, Ethan Phillips, Daniel Robles, Jayden Smith, Alex Vafai, Victoria Depenbrock, Phallon Evans, and Ella Munoz.
On the track, Bracton Bylaw captured first place in both the 100 and 200 meters, while Aiden Kontos and Daniel Robles each earned victories in their respective events. In the field events, Jayden Smith (high jump), Boston Nguyen (long jump), and Ethan Phillips (triple jump) all secured first-place finishes, while Zack Amelchenko won the javelin.
The girls’ team also delivered standout performances, with Noelle Barthelette winning both the 100 and 200 meters. Lucia Casacci claimed first in the 800 meters, and Penelope Boulton took the top spot in the 1600 meters. Ella Munoz added to the team’s success with wins in both the long jump and triple jump, while Ysamar Pimentel (high jump) and Syndes Wehrs (javelin) also finished first in their events.
NBP also honored their seniors from the beach volleyball team with Ellie Street, Chelsea Ventura, Kayla Tracy, Destiny Wiggins, Yasmin Dios Toron, Dasia Johnson, Ava Swartman, and Skye Marino. The Eagles are 4-4 this year and are set to play Monarch High School in their next match on Monday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. The Knights are 2-4 this year and feature senior Brooke Yunus.
