
North Broward Prep Girls Volleyball Team. {NBP Athletics}
North Broward Prep brought home yet another state title, while several other teams began their quest, along with a signing day for four seniors.
The girls’ volleyball team ended their season with a pair of wins this weekend to win their first State title in school history. After a dominating regular season, which featured the Eagles going 20-2 with their only losses coming in tournaments, which were best of three sets, the Eagles won a District and Regional Title before advancing to the State Final following a 25-6, 25-15, 25-11 win over Lemon Bay High School.
The Eagles then played Merritt Island on Saturday and won. In five sets, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-10, 15-10, as seniors Riley Dynan and Chelsea Ventura. Daisa Johnson, Yasmin Dias Tonon, Ava Swartman, Layni Tobias, and Kate Lynch end their high school career with a State Title.
They also had three players sign to compete in college, including Dias Tonon, who will play at Bentley University. Layni-Tobias is headed to Queens University, and Dasia Johnson is signing with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Jack Rostock, a member of the baseball team, was the fourth student-athlete to sign on Wednesday and will play at NC State.
The football team is the eighth seed and will play at Cardinal Mooney High School, the ninth-ranked team in the state. The Eagles went 5-5 during the regular season following wins over Westminster Academy, Pembroke Pines Charter, Somerset Academy Key, St John Paul II, and Coral Springs Charter.
The Cougars went 9-1 this year and lost only to Cherry Creek High School, the top-ranked team in Colorado. The winner of this game will play either Calvary Christian Academy or Bishop Verot High School, while Lakewood, Somerset Academy- Canyons, Glades Central, and King’s Academy all qualified.
Willis Gillis won first place at the District Championship in cross country at South Country Regional Park, while the boys’ team finished third overall to qualify for Regionals. He had a time of 15:59.6 while Caden Nassar placed seventh. Eric Levy placed 12th, followed by Levi Bekker in 20th. Ari Arbel, Daniel Robles, Jackson Rivers, Calvin Lukens, Josh Dewew, and Alexander Vafai all ran while Penelope Boulton finished 86th for the girls.
Gillis went on to finish fifth at Regionalsat South Country Regional Park. As a team, the boys team placed second overall, only behind Gulliver Prep. Nassau was next to finish followed by Levy, Bekker, Arbel Rivers and Robles. The hockey team is also 7-0 this year, outscoring opponents 61-7, while Cooper Emerson broke two school records with eight goals in a game and 11 points against Boca Raton Senior High School. Simon Sheffield will also compete at state for the swim team after strong results in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle at Regionals.
