Coconut Creek held a Touch-A-Truck event at the Butterfly parking lot on April 5.
The event brought hundreds of people together to see and even sit in fire trucks, law enforcement vehicles, buses, public works vehicles, and a garbage truck. Families could enjoy lunch from food trucks, and there was a DJ.
The fire truck was very popular with children. Megan Pedro placed her three-year-old son, Ryder, on the truck seat so he could pretend he was driving it. “We had a lot of fun here, and my son enjoyed the truck,” said Megan.
Frank Hererra, a fire truck driver, was pleased to see families line up with their children to see the truck and other fire rescue vehicles.
“I am glad so many people came to see our vehicles and what we do for the city,” he said.

Families could see the latest police vehicles. The Coconut Creek police department showed its new SWAT vehicle and Polaris, an off-road vehicle. Children enjoyed playing with them, and they could see a police car up close.
“This is a way for us to meet with our residents,” said Sergent Barbara Hendrickx.
Several utility vehicles were also present. Roland Smith, who drives a large utility truck for the city, showed people how his truck vacuums up waste and keeps the city clean.
Mayor Jackie Railey was pleased to see residents having fun.
“This was a spectacular party, and I was glad to see the smiles on kid’s faces,” she said.
