Monarch High School has a busy week of sports before closing out October with a historic football game and senior nights.
For the first time since 2003, the football team hosted a game on its home field, defeating Blanche Ely High School 38-0. Florentino Lopez was responsible for three touchdowns in the game, recording two rushing and one to Sanjae Fisher. Oscar Sager also had a 99-yard interception returned for a touchdown.
The defense was also led by Dasean Miller, who recorded four sacks. He finished with 11 tackles, along with 11 from Jordyn Pyfrom. The Knights also honored their seniors Jaborree Riggins, Jabari Brady, Raenaldo Farrington, Dasean Miller, Amari Deer, Jordyn Pyfrom, Jayden Joselin, Florentino Lopez, Oscar Sager, Chris Davis, Wallace McIntosh, Champ Brown, Nate Williams, Jayden Henry, Niles Lynem, Maurice Dorsey, Andre Farrow, Juwan Dawkins, Miguel Farinas, Juovance Nelson, Christian Ferguson, Moe Judson, Donovan Isnadin, Sebastian White, Lorvens Barthelemy, Trent McIntosh, and Nyreeke Brown.
The Knights finished the season 6-4, playing one of the most demanding schedules in the state. They were crowned District Champions for the fourth straight season and fifth time in school history a week ago, following a win against Piper High School.
Monarch also had wins over Deerfield Beach, Seminole, and Coral Springs High School while losing to Bolles, Don Bresco Prep, Chaminada Madonna, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. They will have a week off before they find out their opponent for the region playoffs.
The swim team recently held Senior Night, honoring Elior Pintor, Josselynn Zapata, Chase Navarette, and Jad Sadik. They also competed at the District Championship and did well, but no swimmers qualified for Regionals.
The cross country team ran at Quiet Waters Park and finished in third place, with Sophia Ortega recording the top time. The boys also ran with Landon Kerlegrand, placing 29th, and Jaiden Roberts, coming in 35th.
The golf team had two players compete, with Ethan Weiss placing ninth at the District Tournament, shooting a 78, and Ty Hebster placing 27th.
